CONTEXT & PROBLEM
Arkisys provides hardware and software platforms that empower anyone, anywhere to build a business in space, supporting the full spectrum of their orbital ambitions.
Context & To-Do
Tasked with translating complex aerospace specifications into clear, relatable use cases, I designed an intuitive onboarding experience to help clients easily verify technical specs and book missions.
DESIGN & PROTOTYPING
Creating the website flow
Building on Arkisys's existing website structure, I mapped out the initial user flow. What I did differently was expanding the architecture by creating dedicated pages for each service, replacing static PDF links with fully integrated web pages.

Low-fidelity prototype
I translated the original website flow into a low-fidelity prototype, changing up the visual layout while preserving the core structure.

Design Iteration 1
Based on feedback from the low-fidelity prototype, I shifted my focus to optimizing how the content was displayed.
Service showcase
Compared to the old website design, I had to design the new one to be less text-heavy and more visually engaging.
Here's an example. Compared to the original website design, the new one visualizes more what services the Port can provide to clients.
The new pages are designed to clearly display product specifications, helping companies verify alignment with their mission needs.
Mission booking system
I also redesigned the mission booking system to be more user-friendly and interactive.

Design Iteration 2
In the second iteration, I focused on improving the visual design and experience of the home page, tweaked the mission booking system, and created a new Astrobee page.
Mission booking system
After gathering more detailed engineering requirements for booking a mission, I updated the UI to accommodate these granular inputs.
Numerical input
Text field for numerical values
Yes/no input
Multiple-choice-style for yes/no questions
Slider input
Interactive slider for selecting a value within a range
Astrobee page
I also designed a dedicated page for the Astrobee robot to support its transition from NASA to Arkisys.
IMPLEMENTATION & POLISH
Finalizing the website design
While I wish I could have had more time to develop the website, I was able to create a functional prototype that showcases the key features and design elements.
REFLECTION & LEARNING
What I learned
This project was my first-ever website design experience. I learned a lot about creating a user-friendly interface and the importance of iterative design. Below are some key takeaways:
- Communication is crucial. Bridging the gap between specialized teams and stakeholders ensures everyone is on the same page and project goals are met
- Continuous feedback and iteration are essential for creating a truly user-friendly experiences
- Complex technical data can always be broken down into simpler, more digestible pieces. Sometimes, framing them as a story is the best way to connect
